Two plans, and one of them never ends.

The line falls where our bill falls. Anything that costs nothing each time it runs is free for good; the one thing with a cost attached is the only thing with a number against it.

No trial, on purpose

A countdown on top of a free tier only takes something away, because the free tier is already the trial. Nothing you can do today stops working tomorrow.

One price, converted

Play converts from the dollar figure and handles local tax. The app reads the price from Play rather than carrying a number of its own, so the paywall always shows what you pay.

The free tier is not a demo

The dictionary, the readings, the audio and everything you save keep working when the weekly allowance is spent, and when the phone has no signal at all.

The things worth asking before you pay.

Is there a free trial?

No, and that is deliberate. The free tier already is the trial: the dictionary, the readings, the audio and a weekly allowance of explanations do not expire. A seven-day countdown on top of that would only take something away. What a free reader genuinely cannot reach is reading text inside images, so that gets five uses, once, when it ships.

What happens when the weekly allowance runs out?

The AI explanation stops until Monday. Nothing else does. You still get the word, the reading, the senses, the audio, the translation and everything you have saved, because none of those cost us anything to run. Signing in raises the allowance from 20 to 40 a week.

Does a cached answer spend one?

No. If somebody has already asked about that word in that sentence, the answer comes back from the cache and your count does not move. The number is a count of questions nobody has asked yet.

What will it cost in my currency?

Google Play converts from the dollar price and handles local tax, so the number you see on the paywall in the app is the number you will be charged. Cairn never writes a price into the app itself.

How do I cancel?

In the Google Play app, under Payments and subscriptions. Cancelling stops the renewal and Pro keeps working until the period you paid for ends.

Do I need an account?

Not to look a word up. Cairn makes an anonymous account on first launch so your saved words have somewhere to live. Signing in raises the weekly allowance and gets your words onto a second device and back after you lose a phone.
